The takeaway

The takeaway

Methods of taking away your opponents’ counter punching.

*Throw combinations.

Throwing combinations stops the opponent from counterpunching.

*Feinting.

Feint, counter the opponents counter.

Stop the attack altogether by using the feint.

*Jabbing.

Jab while simultaneously circling to the left (for left-hand opponents)

Jab while simultaneously circling to the right (for right-handed fighters)

*Angling.

Angle out either left or right after throwing punches from the inside.

*Elusive head positioning.

Place your head in different locations other than upright.

Move your head side to side, or slip low and then come up with a punch to catch your opponent off guard. This will make it difficult for your opponent to accurately counter punch.

*Body movement.

Use lateral movement, footwork, and pivoting to create angles and make it difficult for your opponent to land effective counter punches.

*Range management.

Maintain a safe distance from your opponent and use your reach advantage to keep them at bay. This will limit their opportunities to counter punch effectively.

*Timing.

*Stop attack. Throw your punches at the right moment, just before your opponent launches their counter attack. This will disrupt their timing and leave them vulnerable.

*Defense.

Maintain a high guard and use effective defensive techniques such as slipping, blocking, and parrying to neutralize your opponent’s counter punching. By doing so, you can take away their offensive options and maintain control and pace.
