RANGE
“Know your range. Know whether you are in your opponents’ punch range or not.
CONTROL THE RANGE using effective footwork and head positioning. Each range has its own fighting strategies such as inside fighting or boxing from the outside”
ZONES
1 All the way out or range
2 Danger zone- in punch range
3 All the way in- inside fighting
The range refers to the distance between you and your opponent, and different ranges require different fighting strategies.
As you mentioned, there are generally three ranges that fighters need to be aware of:
1. Out of range: This is the farthest distance between you and your opponent, where you cannot reach them with your strikes or grappling techniques. This range is useful for setting up attacks, feints, and footwork.
2. Punch range or the danger zone: This is the distance where you and your opponent can land strikes on each other. It’s called the danger zone because you are vulnerable to your opponent’s attacks, but it’s also the range where you can land your most powerful strikes.
3. Inside fighting range: This is the range where you and your opponent are in close proximity, and hook and uppercut techniques become more effective than strikes. This range is also known as the clinch range, and it requires different techniques and strategies than the other ranges.
To control the range, fighters use footwork to move in and out of each range, and they also use head positioning to maintain the desired distance between them and their opponent. By understanding the different ranges and how to control them, fighters can effectively use their strengths and exploit their opponent’s weaknesses.
