Major and minor adjustments
“Major and Minor Adjustments (Strategy and/or technique)
There are major adjustments and then there are minor adjustments you can make during the bout.
Major ones include changes in strategy like
1. Going forward and/or standing in range-
standing toe to toe, pressuring the opponent, inside fighting, standing in punch range.
2. Boxing backward and angles-
Technical boxing in and outside with movement.
Minor adjustments would be small changes in technique. For example, you are trying to use the jab against your opponent but you keep getting counter punched in the process.
That is the time when you adjustment and go from a *classical jab to an elusive jab.
Or another example would be to make adjustments by using angles from inside to take away from the opponents counterpunching instead of standing in front of your opponent.
These little minor changes can make all the difference, you have to just be aware of the situation and then implement. It’s imperative to have a competent cornerman to guide you.
The cornerman will see things you cannot”
There are major and minor adjustments a fighter can make during a bout. Major adjustments usually involve changes in strategy, such as altering the distance or range of the fight, switching between offensive and defensive tactics, or changing the pace and intensity of the fight. These types of adjustments require a higher level of strategic thinking and may involve taking risks or making significant changes to a fighter’s game plan.
Minor adjustments, on the other hand, typically involve small changes in technique or tactics that can be implemented quickly and easily during the course of a fight. These types of adjustments are often made in response to a specific situation or problem, such as countering an opponent’s specific move or adjusting to their fighting style. Minor adjustments can include things like changing the angle of attack, altering the timing of punches, or refining footwork and movement.
Both major and minor adjustments can be important tools for a fighter looking to gain an advantage during a bout. Knowing when and how to make these adjustments requires experience, skill, and a deep understanding of the sport and one’s opponent.
