Be creative in your deceptions

Be creative in your deceptions

“Every fighter is an artist who paints his own picture”

It seems nature is creative, spontaneous, and loves variety. For example, when applying boxing strategy and technique, we like to harness these natural qualities.

The art of deception is no different.

We implement these natural qualities in our deceptive moves using different punching techniques and combinations along with feints in creative ways. Each fighter is his/her own artist and creates their own deceptive moves that fit their own abilities.

If a fighter has a strong right cross or right hand, it’s harder to land punches using direct attack or blow.

Instead, we use the indirect approach by setting up the right hand by creatively using feints, *throwaways, or another deceptive move we call baiting.

These creative deceptive moves lengthen the opponents reaction time and lets the fighter land cleaner shots.

Creativity is a key component of effective deception in combat sports. By using a variety of techniques, combinations, and feints, fighters can keep their opponents guessing and create openings for successful strikes.

As mentioned, a fighter’s own unique abilities and strengths should be taken into account when developing deceptive moves. A fighter with a strong right cross, for example, might use feints or throwaways to set up that punch, rather than relying solely on direct attacks.

Baiting is another effective way to use creativity in deception. This involves intentionally leaving an apparent opening or weakness in one’s defense to lure the opponent into attacking, then countering with a surprise move.

Overall, the key to using creativity in deception is to constantly experiment and adapt to the situation at hand. By developing a diverse set of techniques and strategies, fighters can keep their opponents off balance and gain an advantage in the ring or on the mat.

Bait your opponent

Baiting your opponent is a deceptive move that can be very effective in combat sports and martial arts. It requires skill and practice to execute properly, but can be a valuable tool for setting up counterattacks and catching your opponent off guard.

As mentioned, baiting can be done in a variety of ways, and each fighter can develop their own unique moves based on their strengths and weaknesses. One example of a bait move is to present an opening or weakness in one’s defense to lure the opponent into attacking, then countering with a swift and unexpected move.

In the example you provided, the fighter drops their left hand to anticipate the opponent’s right hand, then slips the punch and counters with a right hand to the body. This is a creative and effective way to use baiting to create openings for counterattacks.

To develop effective bait moves, fighters should practice shadow boxing and sparring, and experiment with different techniques and strategies. By developing a diverse set of skills and techniques, fighters can become more well-rounded and successful in combat sports.
